Hope Fellowship Sermon Notes: Jan 15, 2006

This is the second week where we have had the priviledge to listen to what Pete Brokopp has had to say. Once again, the message was powerful. Pete spoke out of the Old Testament book of Isaiah. Several elements of Pete's message really struck home, but I will focus on one here.

Chapter 6:3 states, "Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory."

To get the full impact of this verse, you have to understand that this is what the angels were proclaiming in heaven when witnessed by Isaiah. But to really understand and comprehend...is it even possible? Perhaps if we get on top of a mountain and shout at the top of our voice for all to hear...over and over repeating "Holy, Holy Holy is the Lord God Almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory!! Would we then comprehend?

Our problem is that we think too small. Christians continually feel the need to protect the Word of God or the ideas we feel are important, often with negative results. You especially see this when Christians attempt to reason with a non-believer. It doesn't work since we are looking at the issue with different eyes and hopefully a separate belief structure. I can't help think about the latest debate over intelligent design versus evolution. True believers know that God the Father (Genesis1:1), Jesus Christ the Son (John 1:1), and the Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:2) were all present at the time of creation. So why all the effort to make it humanistically palatable by calling it intelligent design? Call it what it is...we are all created by God in his image!

But I feel that in this debate we are missing the whole point, which is 'the whole earth is full of His glory'! The evidence of His creation is all around us. We do not have to defend this. God's glory, as stated in Isaiah, defends itself much better than we can. Our job is much more simple. We must proclaim His glory. Let God do the rest!
